Story behind the vintage carpets

At Walter you will find a wide range of unique vintage carpets. Since all carpets are unique pieces in a variety of sizes, shapes and colors, we will introduce you to the background of the carpets here.

The vintage carpets come from Anatolia and were usually given to families as dowries. They are often up to 50 years old and have a beautiful patina. The carpets are collected from families in Anatolia.

In the workshop in Istanbul, the carpets are first scrubbed and washed.

The hand-knotted carpets are made of 100% Anatolian wool. The carpets are freed from old and superfluous wool by washing and shearing them.

The carpets are bleached in an ecological and environmentally friendly way. The original colors are balanced and the carpets are ready for the next step.

The carpets are laid out in the Anatolian sun in the fields to dry. They are then washed and disinfected again.

Imperfections in the carpets are repaired, tears are sewn up, and sometimes a carpet has to be cut to size . Each one is processed and patched in a different way. This is how the carpet receives its final finish.
